A Home Reborn with Intention and Timeless Charm
Originally designed by our team in 2015, this home was a heartfelt tribute to a classic farmhouse in Bismarck, North Dakota—a place deeply rooted in our client’s family history. While we were solely a design firm at the time, our vision brought their dream to life. When tragedy struck in the fall of 2023 and a garage fire reduced the home to its foundation, the family returned to us—this time to both reimagine and construct the home they loved.
But this story isn’t about what was lost—it's about what was preserved, improved, and brought back to life with even greater care.

The original design was cherished, and much of it remained intact. With only a few intentional changes—like removing the two-story vault in the living room to add a second-floor office and crafting a more intimate, grounded living space below—the home became not only a reflection of what once was, but a refined version tailored perfectly to the family’s evolving needs.
The charm and character of this home are simply priceless. By blending vintage touches with new materials and construction techniques, the result is a home that doesn’t feel brand new—and that’s exactly the point. It looks like it’s been here for 100 years, and we’ve built it to last another hundred.

From its dark oak cabinetry to the enclosed side porch that feels like it was converted from a classic open farmhouse porch decades ago, every detail nods to tradition. Maple hardwoods, natural marble, timeless millwork, and traditionally styled cabinets and windows echo the craftsman farmhouse roots that inspired the original vision.
While the aesthetic tells a story of the past, the construction is rooted in the future. Built with energy efficiency at the forefront, the home features:
- Structural Insulated Panels (SIPS) for an ultra-insulated structure
- Geothermal heat pumps and high-performance envelope systems for year-round comfort and sustainability
- Sound barrier insulation for peace and quiet throughout
- Authentic, lasting materials chosen with intention for durability and beauty

The floor plan offers the perfect balance of openness and separation—a seamless flow that serves the family’s everyday rhythm, providing both gathering spaces and tucked-away corners for work and rest.
This home is a testament to thoughtful design, skilled craftsmanship, and the power of blending old and new. Rebuilt with care, it carries the soul of the original while offering the function, comfort, and performance of a modern-day legacy home.
