The Refuge Design Concept: A Home Planned for Hospitality and Peace

view project

Design Intent

The design for The Refuge is grounded in hospitality, connection, and quiet simplicity. From the earliest sketches, the layout was planned to balance open communal spaces with intentional separation, allowing the home to serve guests while still feeling calm and centered for everyday living.

Spatial Planning

  • Main Level: Envisioned as an open yet grounded gathering space, oriented to capture the rolling eastern views through large windows. Soft natural light, warm materials, and thoughtful flow support conversation, shared meals, and community.
  • Lower Level: Planned as a highly functional guest haven — with self-contained amenities that make extended stays comfortable, respectful, and private. This space allows the homeowners to continue their calling to host, without compromising daily life.

Architectural Direction

The Refuge’s design goes beyond aesthetics. It reflects the homeowners’ heart for people, offering a place where peace, purpose, and hospitality meet. This is the kind of meaningful, intentional project that defines Truebuild Homes as a custom home builder and design-build partner in North Dakota.
